A tactile 15th century carved oak figure of a saint, probably English, East Anglican, circa 1420-60
REF: 5162
Designed standing, wearing clerical robes arranged in strong vertical folds.
In his true right hand he holds a fish, and the geometric shapes, held in material folds across the waist, are bread. Given the English attribution, this is most likely a representation of the 'The Feeding of the Multitude' or 'Feeding of the 5000', the only miracle of Jesus recorded in all four gospels, aside from the Resurrection. It is designed in reference to the sacrament of Holy Communion and emphasises God's compassion for both physical and spiritual 'hunger'
