Having a one-piece lid with double-reeded edge, the front well-carved with full-height nulling, joined by upper guilloche and with chip-carved detail, the sides descending to angular-stepped cutaway supports, again with chip-carved detail. The frieze typically designed around the lockplate. The lockplate has been historically replaced with a wonderful (and rare) papier maché plate, with an incredible iron-like appearance
