Designed as a band of scrolling floral carved in high relief and painted in green, red and blue against a neutral ground, both 12cm high, the shorter 61cm long, (2)
Extant examples of 16th century vernacular painted decoration is generally found directly on plaster or flat timber panels. Both the design and raised execution found here is more directly comparable to pargetting, which became popular during the reign of Henry VIII (1509-1547), particularly associated with Suffolk and Essex.
